Compassionate end-of-life care can be provided in the comfort of your pet’s own home, allowing them to spend their final moments in a place where they feel safe, secure and surrounded by the people they love. By avoiding the stress of travelling by car and visiting an unfamiliar veterinary clinic, your pet can remain relaxed and at peace in familiar surroundings.
Home euthanasia also gives family and close friends the opportunity to say goodbye in a calm, private and meaningful way, creating the time and space to honour a life that has brought so much love and companionship.
While often referred to as in-home euthanasia, this service can also be provided in your backyard, your pet’s favourite park, or even at the beach, provided the location is peaceful, appropriate and comfortable for both you and your pet.

Dr Lloyd’s Commitment
Having undertaken the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy ‘Excellency Course’, Dr Lloyd strives to provide the highest possible care and compassion during this sad time. She can work with you in planning the passing of your loved one and can usually provide an urgent service when required.
What to expect at the appointment
To allow you to focus entirely on your pet, we will gently guide you through the necessary consent forms, discuss your aftercare wishes, and arrange any payment details before the visit. By taking care of these practical matters in advance, you can spend your time simply being present with your pet, without having to think about anything else.
When you are ready, Dr Lloyd will administer a gentle sedative using a very fine needle under the skin. Most pets barely notice the injection, although some may briefly react before settling again. Over the next 5 to 15 minutes, the medication will help your pet become deeply relaxed and peacefully drift off to sleep, comforted by your presence and surrounded by the people they love.
Once your pet is fully asleep and you have had the opportunity to say your goodbyes, Dr Lloyd will carefully administer the final medication. This is usually given through a small intravenous catheter that is placed while your pet is asleep, so they are not aware of it. There is never any rush. The final medication will only be given when you are ready. Once your pet has passed peacefully, Dr Lloyd will gently confirm their passing.
You may wish to place some favourite blankets or towels beneath your pet to keep them comfortable throughout the visit. Please be aware that these may occasionally become soiled as the body relaxes after passing.
There is no need to rush this experience. Dr Lloyd will explain each step, answer any questions you may have, and ensure everything proceeds at a pace that feels right for you. If you prefer not to be present for the final medication, that choice will always be respected.
After care arrangements
Dr Lloyd’s Mobile VetCARE can arrange all aspects of your pet’s aftercare in accordance with your wishes. Whether you choose private cremation with the return of your pet’s ashes, communal cremation, or wish to make your own arrangements, every option will be discussed with you beforehand so you can make the decision that feels right for you and your family.
If you choose aftercare through Dr Lloyd’s Mobile VetCARE, your pet will be treated with the utmost dignity and respect, and we will arrange collection and transportation on your behalf. If you prefer to bury your pet at home (where permitted) or use your own cremation provider, we will happily support your decision and assist in any way we can.
